This MRC webinar with highlight the lived experience of school exclusion among young people and draw out implications for social work and inter-disciplinary practice
Roma Thomas is a Principal Lecturer in the School of Applied Social Sciences (SASS), University of Bedfordshire. She is Portfolio Lead for undergraduate programmes in SASS, and has taught on a wide range of courses across the social sciences including childhood and youth studies, global childhoods, research methods and employability skills.
Roma’s research interests include social work communication with children and families, gender and young masculinities, school exclusion and marginalised young people. She is currently completing a PhD on teenage boys, school exclusion and professional practice at the University of Sussex.
In this webinar Roma will draw on her PhD research to highlight the lived experience of school exclusion among young people and draw out implications for social work and inter-disciplinary practice. She will explore key dimensions including gender and race. This is an opportunity to discuss reflective and rela- tional practice in social work and multidisciplinary practice in the context of work with young people who have been excluded from mainstream school.
