Hugh McLaughlin is Professor Emeritus of Social Work at Manchester Metropolitan University, and a registered social worker. Before moving into academia, he had had considerable practice experience; Hugh has worked across Children’s and Family services as a Social Worker, Team Manager,

In this webinar, Hugh will present the year 2 and year 3 findings of an ongoing 5-year mixed methods research study in England collecting robust evidence on recruitment, retention and progression of children and family social workers. He will focus on the unique aspect of the study that follows up 40 social workers: 10 who said they would leave and left; 10 who said they would leave and stayed;10 who said they would stay and stayed; and 10 who said they would stay and left.
The webinar will provide an opportunity to consider key messages from the study, insights from the interviews, and the implications for social workers, their employers and government.
