MRC- Retention In Adult And Children’s Social Work: A New Theory Of Change
Description
The retention of social care professionals is a significant challenge in the UK and internationally. This webinar introduces a theory of change designed to improve the retention of social workers in adult and children’s services. The theory of change draws on findings from two major research studies conducted with social workers across England. These studies identified the importance of Critical Career Episodes (‘stay or go’ moments) in shaping career trajectories and intentions to remain in practice.
The research also identified a three-factor career pathway model- mobility, specialism, and generativity- which supports retention, alongside the importance of aligning support with the identity needs of social workers at different career stages.
