MRC Webinar - Are Unregulated Children’s Homes Criminogenic?
This webinar is managed by our partner, MRC
Description
The number of children entering unregulated placements is dramatically increasing all over England. Many of these children are being placed in homes within deprived and high-crime areas and are faced with very low living conditions. There is an increasing number of cases where children have been living in unstable conditions such as boats and caravans (Marsh and Walker, 2019).
Research highlights that these children often face higher rates of exploitation due to the unregulated nature of these placements, particularly from those managing these unregulated homes. In this webinar Niki will:
• discuss the link between unregulated care homes for children and criminality, as well as current gaps in literature surrounding this area.
• highlight the necessity for regulation and maintenance of these care home placements.
• discuss a survey that was sent out to Child Protection Practitioners (CPP) to understand the behaviours of children in these homes and the possible causes.
• make recommendations to improve these unregulated placements based on the above survey.
