MRC Webinar - Abusive Sexual Behaviour Between Child Siblings: Characteristics And Professional Responses
This webinar is managed by our partner, MRC
Description
Sibling sexual abuse (SSA) – the sexual abuse of children by their brothers and sisters - is a common form of intra-familial sexual abuse. As harmful as sexual abuse by a sibling is, it is often devastating for whole families, with significant long-term consequences not only for the children involved but also for the parents, other siblings, and the wider family. The fact that the child who has harmed and the child who has been harmed are not only both children, but children of the same family, presents particular challenges which can often lead to confused and confusing responses by professionals.
In this webinar, Peter will :
• outline some of the up-to-date research on the characteristics and impact of sibling sexual abuse and their implications for practice.
• discuss how to respond appropriately without minimising or catastrophising these situations.
• pay particular attention to the difficult decisions that are required regarding siblings living together and contact arrangements following sibling sexual abuse becoming known.
