Anxious non attenders
Anxious Non-Attendance (also referred to as Emotionally Based School Avoidance) is a growing concern for autistic pupils, their families, and the professionals who work with them. This module, co-produced with individuals with lived experience, explores how anxiety can lead to school absence and its impact on daily life. It equips delegates to identify causes of Anxious Non-Attendance, consider reasonable adjustments, and explore options should attendance break down.
Description
Target Audience:
- Early Help generally, family workers supporting families, and those who would benefit from a general awareness.
- Prerequisite: We strongly recommend where possible attending the Good Autism Practice Training or equivalent up to date training/knowledge of autism/neurodivergence to provide a foundation for the content Anxious Non-Attenders will cover.
Aims:
- Increase understanding of the causes and impact of Anxious Non-Attendance.
- Develop knowledge of practical strategies and approaches to support pupils.
- Identify sources of further support for pupils experiencing Anxious Non-Attendance.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the module, delegates will:
- Understand the importance of meeting support needs to reduce Anxious Non-Attendance.
- Recognise the individual experience of Anxious Non-Attendance.
- Be able to implement effective strategies at both whole-school and practitioner level
