MRC- Intra-Familial Sexual Abuse

This seminar is part of an online learning package which includes watching four pre-recorded films. Please ensure you have set aside at least two hours to complete this before attending the live seminar.
Learning objectives:
› To increase confidence in recognising and responding to IFCSA, and developing skills in working with families experiencing trauma from this type of abuse. We will consider:
- what Intra-familial child sexual abuse is
- what we know and don’t know about the prevalence
- how attitudes and values shape outcomes for children in relation to familial abuse
- differentiating sibling abuse from sexual exploration
- family vulnerabilities
- indicators of possible abuse
- contemplating the term “disclosure”
- what the barriers are for children to seek help around sexual abuse
- what children have told us
- what and when to do direct work
- impact on all family members
- best practice in recovery work
- impact on the worker and the team.
