MRC Webinar - Understanding the Relationship Between Risk and Harm: A Strengths-Based Approach to Child Protection

This webinar is managed by our partner, MRC.

Description

In recent years, there has been a shift toward a more strengths-based approach to safeguarding children and young people. This approach involves understanding the relationships between risks, vulnerabilities, and strengths, and placing emphasis on the nature of harm and its impact on children and young people.

It also challenges our assumptions about childhood, parenting, and the difference between “working with” families rather than “doing to” them. This shift is rooted not only in ethical practice and respect for the rights of children, young people, and their families, but also in evidence that relationship-based approaches lead to better outcomes.

This webinar will reflect on research and practice in this area, including how to assess and understand significant harm.
