This session is designed to enable attendees to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during the two-day session of this course.
Duration: 1 day
Learning outcomes:
- Identify when to carry out a Mental Capacity assessment
- Collecting relevant information
- Apply the principles of the act to maximise capacity
- Submit a Mental Capacity assessment
Practical tasks
With the use of various case studies, attendees will:
- Identify when a Mental Capacity assessment should be carried
- Apply the steps of the assessment process
- Determine the area/category each decision comes under
- Identify the relevant stake holders to consult
- Gather the information relevant to the decision (records, family, carers)
- Present the information to the individual
- Evidence workings out and explain the outcome
- Enlist other services for support (Best Interest)
Assessment:
Pre-course work will be assigned to attendees. Throughout the day, learners will be expected to participate in group activities. This will include analytical work based on video case and written case studies.
