For some Local Authorities this may be the first time they have been approached to undertake such an assessment.
Introduction: My name is Katie Thrussell and I have been working in this field for over 14 years. I am seconded temporarily to the South East as a Principal Social Worker from Oxfordshire County Council. In my post at Oxfordshire, I managed a specialised Unaccompanied Children and Young People’s team. We worked with young people from arrival and covered age ranges of 0-25. During this time, I covered over 60 age assessments as a lead assessor and was challenged as a witness in court, including in the high court. Various other trainings and contacts have led me to be in a position where I can share good practice.
The day’s session will cover:
